TEC set (Total Energy Compensation ) for SkyAssistant (and other varios)

To display the pure thermal through the Vario signal without so-called "stick thermals", the model can be equipped with a flight Varios TE-compensation nozzle. Now also available for the SkyAssistant, there is a TEC vertical tail nozzle set for installation and also for models with V-tail for the fuselage. About 8-10 mm from the end of the nozzle (which is closed at the end) in the wind shadow (on the side away from wind) there is a small calibrated bore to measure air pressure. The faster the model (nose down = faster sinking), the higher is negative pressure in the lee of the nozzle. When pulling the stick, the model is slow and negative air pressure in the lee of the nozzle is lower. The result is a (though in comparison to man carrying gliders relatively primitive) vario compensation. Thus, by flying with compensated variometer, the signal will be more calm because the vario signal distortions are hidden. But if there is an advantage, a disadvantage is never far. In case of flying with TEK, unfortunately the altitude info is somewhat less accurate.

The TEC is useful for sailplanes with 2.5 meter wingspan or more. The bigger and the faster the sailplane, the more it`s worth to use a TEC nozzle. It can be easily removed for transport.
